Meridian Law Associates LLC ("Meridian", "we", "us" or "our") respects the privacy of clients, prospective clients, professional contacts, website visitors and other people whose information we handle. This policy describes our general approach to personal information. It should be read together with any engagement letter, client terms, professional obligations or other notice that applies to a particular relationship.
1. Who we are
Meridian Law Associates LLC is a Liberian law firm providing legal services across Liberia and West Africa. Our office is at 2nd Floor, Blue Diamond Building, 19th Street, Sinkor, Tubman Boulevard, Monrovia, Liberia.
For privacy questions, requests or concerns, contact us at info@meridianlawassociatesllc.com. We may update this contact information from time to time; the current details are published on our Contact page.
2. Information we may collect
The information we collect depends on how you interact with Meridian and the choices you make. It may include:
- Identity and contact information, such as your name, title, organisation, email address, telephone number and correspondence address.
- Enquiry and matter information, including the subject of your enquiry, the legal or commercial issue you describe, documents you choose to send, and information needed to assess a potential engagement or conduct a conflict check.
- Professional and business information, including your role, company, industry, transaction or dispute details, and information about people or organisations connected with a matter.
- Communications, including messages, telephone records, meeting notes and correspondence exchanged with the firm.
- Client administration information, including information reasonably required for billing, payment, identity checks, regulatory compliance, record keeping and the administration of an engagement.
- Technical information about website use, such as IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, referring pages, approximate location derived from technical information, and dates and times of access.
- Information received from others, including a client or authorised representative, a professional referrer, a public authority, a publicly available source or a service provider acting on our instructions.
3. How we use personal information
We use personal information only for purposes connected with our work, our professional responsibilities and the operation of this website. Those purposes may include:
- Responding to enquiries, consultation requests and other communications.
- Assessing whether Meridian can act, including carrying out conflict checks and deciding whether a proposed engagement is appropriate.
- Providing legal advice, representation, transaction support, dispute-resolution services, regulatory assistance and other services described in an engagement letter.
- Managing client relationships, matters, appointments, billing, payments, records and internal administration.
- Meeting legal, professional, regulatory, accounting, insurance, court or law-enforcement obligations.
- Protecting the rights, property, confidentiality, security and systems of Meridian, our clients and other people.
- Maintaining, securing and improving this website, its content, accessibility and user experience.
- Sending firm updates or other information where permitted by law and, where required, with your consent. You may opt out of non-essential communications.
4. Confidentiality and legal professional obligations
Meridian treats client information with professional care and maintains confidentiality in accordance with applicable law, professional duties and the terms of the relevant engagement. Legal professional privilege may apply to certain communications and materials where recognised by applicable law.
A website enquiry, email or telephone call does not by itself make Meridian your lawyer or create an attorney-client relationship. Before a formal engagement is accepted, information you send may not receive the same protection as information provided within an established client relationship. Please do not send highly sensitive or time-critical information through the website until Meridian has confirmed that it can act and the engagement has been agreed.
5. Why we are permitted to use information
We use personal information on the basis that the processing is necessary to respond to a request, perform or take steps toward an engagement, comply with a legal or professional obligation, protect legitimate interests, protect a person’s vital interests where applicable, or because you have given consent. The appropriate basis depends on the information and the circumstances. Where we rely on consent, you may withdraw it, although withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out lawfully.
6. When we may share information
We do not sell or rent personal information. We may disclose information where reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including to:
- Meridian partners, lawyers, employees and authorised consultants who need the information to advise on or administer a matter.
- Website and technology service providers. The current website architecture uses Vercel for hosting and application delivery, Baserow for management of public website content, and Resend for transmission of website enquiry emails. A provider receives only the information reasonably required for the relevant service and processes it under its own applicable terms and safeguards.
- Other service providers supporting communications, document management, information technology, security, accounting, payment processing or other firm operations, subject to appropriate confidentiality and security arrangements.
- Courts, tribunals, regulators, public authorities, law-enforcement bodies, insurers, auditors or professional advisers where disclosure is required or permitted.
- A person or organisation involved in a transaction, dispute, financing, investigation or other matter, where disclosure is authorised by the client, required by the engagement or permitted by law.
- A successor, purchaser or adviser in connection with a reorganisation, merger, sale or transfer of all or part of the firm, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
7. Cookies and website technology
This website may use cookies or similar technologies that are necessary for security, page delivery, preferences and basic functionality. If Meridian introduces analytics, embedded media, advertising or other non-essential technologies, we will seek consent where required and provide appropriate information about those technologies.
You can adjust cookie controls through your browser. Disabling certain cookies may affect how parts of the website function. The website may also contain links to external services whose privacy practices are outside Meridian’s control.
8. Retention
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including the duration of an enquiry or engagement, and afterward for record-keeping, legal, professional, insurance, accounting, dispute-resolution or limitation-period purposes. Retention periods may differ according to the type and sensitivity of information. When information is no longer required, we take reasonable steps to delete it, anonymise it or securely dispose of it.
9. Security
Meridian uses reasonable administrative, technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or disclosure. No website, email transmission or storage system is completely secure. If you believe that information has been sent to us in error or that a security incident may have occurred, please contact us promptly so that we can assess and respond appropriately.
10. International and third-party processing
Meridian works with clients and service providers in more than one country. Personal information may therefore be accessed, stored or processed outside Liberia where necessary for a matter or for the operation and security of the firm’s systems. Where applicable, we take reasonable steps to ensure that cross-border handling is subject to appropriate safeguards and remains consistent with our professional and legal obligations.
11. Your choices and rights
Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, you may have rights to ask for access to personal information we hold about you, correction of inaccurate information, deletion, restriction or objection to certain processing, portability of information, or withdrawal of consent. These rights are subject to legal, professional, confidentiality, privilege and record-retention requirements.
To make a request, email info@meridianlawassociatesllc.com with enough information for us to understand and verify the request. We may need to ask for additional information before responding. If you are dissatisfied with our response, you may have the right to raise the matter with a competent supervisory or regulatory authority.
12. Children
This website is intended for general professional and business audiences and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly seek personal information from children through this website. If you believe a child has provided personal information to Meridian, please contact us.
13. Third-party websites
The website may link to websites, platforms or resources operated by third parties. Those services have their own terms and privacy notices. Meridian is not responsible for the content, security or privacy practices of third-party sites, and you should review their notices before providing information.
14. Changes to this policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in our services, technology, legal obligations or professional practice. The revised version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of the website after an update means that you have had an opportunity to review the revised policy.
If you have a privacy question or would like to make a request, please contact Meridian before sending documents or other sensitive information. Contact Meridian
